Supporting is easy:
Visit www.target.com/gift-registry
Click “Search for an organization” and search “Vista Maria”
Choose the “Vista Maria” link (not “Vista Maria Dolly Drive”)

Webinar

When it comes to heart health and lifestyle, many African Americans have a shared history that may have had an impact for generations. As we navigate the health challenges our community is currently experiencing, what are the opportunities to develop a new normal that enhances the overall health of our community? What role can historically African American organizations play in educating our community about heart health and lifestyle habits that impact overall health?

In addition to health information from the American Heart Association, this free webinar will feature a panel discussion with members of the historically black fraternities and sororities, which have led community programs for more than 100 years. Join the discussion to better understand what individuals and other organizations can do to help educate members of the African American community regarding heart health.

HeartTalk Detroit: Healthy Eating & Childhood Obesity (Public)

February 12, 20213:00 PM
Webinar

Lifestyle has a significant impact on health, with diet and nutrition playing a key role. In addition to physical activity, the ability to access and afford healthy food is critical to ongoing good health. In many urban environments, residents have reduced access to fresh food and produce, often due to limitations in income or transportation. These conditions may lead to food insecurity, experienced by more than one-third of Detroiters.
This free webinar explores the complex issue of food insecurity, including the challenges it presents and the opportunities to reduce its presence. From government-funded programs to urban farming, our panelists will discuss the future of food in Metro Detroit.

Moderator: Leslie Andrews, MBA, Chief Executive Officer, Daisy Ventures, LLC; Recording Secretary, Great Lakes (MI) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated
Panelists:
Malik Yakini, Executive Director, Detroit Black Community Food Security Network
Phil Jones, Executive Director, City Food Community Concepts

HeartTalk Detroit: Healthy Eating & Childhood Obesity (Public)

February 19, 20213:00 PM
Webinar

As our society continues to advance technologically, playing a game of tag outside may be less appealing to children who have access to digital devices and games. Add the fact that junk food and fast food is cheap and easily accessible, and it’s easy to understand how childhood obesity has become an epidemic in America. This may be further compounded in homes where children are picky eaters or accessing fresh food and produce is a challenge. As a result, today’s generation of children may have greater risk of long-term negative health consequences.

This free webinar will feature an interactive panel discussion that focuses on creating healthy eating habits and understanding the potential effects of childhood obesity. Attendees will learn about healthy foods and cooking methods that will also appeal to kids, helping them understand that good food can also be good for you.

Moderator: Dr. Tara Scott, Owner, Foot & Heel Pain Institute of Michigan; Member, Great Lakes (MI) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated

Panelists:
Maxcel Hardy, Celebrity Chef, Owner of JEDs Detroit and COOP Detroit
